Mike Ablitt. Fellow I Fire E. DMS. Dip RSA. Dip FSS MIFPO. MIFSM. Tech IOSH

Mike's first taste of firefighting was during his service with the Army when he was deployed to provide emergency fire cover in Scotland in the 1978 Fireman's dispute. Clearly he must have enjoyed it because he now has over thirty years' experience in the fire industry! Mike joined West Midlands Fire Service in 1980 serving at some of the UK's busiest fire stations. During his service he managed Recruit Training at the prestigious West Midlands Training Centre which offers Firefighter training to all UK Fire Brigades. Mike believes fire safety is a vocation and has always been keen to help others develop their own fire safety knowledge. In 1995 Mike established an annual study courses for those preparing for the Institute of Fire Engineers national examinations which attracted delegates from all parts of the Country. In 2004 became the Head of Fire Prevention with Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service and was the chair of the West Midlands Chief Fire Officers Association 'Fire Safety Group'. Mike studied at the National Fire Services College and is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers. He has a Higher National Diploma in Fire Safety Studies and is a Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers and the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers. Mike is also qualified with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health holding the National General Certificate (NEBOSH) and is a qualified Emergency Medical Technician. He is a BAFETA qualified Fire Extinguisher Engineer and has a City & Guilds Certificate 2377-12 in Portable Electrical Appliance Testing. Having completed his 30 years' service, Mike together with a number of former Fire Service Senior Fire Safety Officers established Unicorn Fire & Safety Solutions.
